Some Tips on Choosing Reception Wedding Dresses

The number of brides who opt to wear one bridal gown for the wedding ceremony and then change into a different dress for the reception has skyrocketed. If this trend appeals to you, here are some suggestions on how to pick the perfect second dress for your wedding reception.

While not a "requirement," reception wedding dresses are an especially good idea for brides with a wedding dress that is voluminous, bulky, or tight - a wedding dress you don't want to risk ruining around food and drinks or simply haul around all night. Some wedding dresses are practically impossible to dance in; for instance, a mermaid wedding dress is notorious for constricting a lot of movement. Whereas your wedding dress is traditional and formal, the reception gown is meant to be more fun and modern.

One of the main reasons to select a different dress for the reception is to be comfortable for dancing. Be sure to keep that in mind when shopping for a reception gown. After all, if your second dress is no more comfortable than your first, your wardrobe change, while stylish, won't be especially practical in terms of enhancing your enjoyment of your reception. The second gown should have either a short train or no train to reduce the weight and a more manageable skirt fullness to make dancing the night away fun and easy.

Short or tea length reception wedding dresses are very popular now. In addition, choose a little white dress that still looks very bridal so that you don't end up blending in with the guests once you have made your change.

Whichever flattering style a bride chooses for her wedding reception gown, it's important to keep one thing in mind: take a breath, let loose and have fun. It's also comforting to remember that any bride can wear her reception wedding dress again, unlike most traditional wedding dresses. Enjoy the party!
